You're Not Stuck. You're Practiced. And Maybe You've Been Practicing the Wrong Thing.

One of the foundational ideas in my upcoming program, Showing Up Fully, is simple:

You're not stuck. You're practiced. That statement changes everything. Because if you're practiced, it means you can practice something different.

Most people think they're struggling because they lack discipline, confidence, motivation, or willpower. I don't think that's true. I think they're incredibly practiced. Practiced at doubting themselves. Practiced at waiting. Practiced at quitting when progress slows. Practiced at believing the outside world has the final say over who they are. And that's where I want to begin. Because after working with people for years, from weight loss clients to entrepreneurs, professionals, parents, and people rebuilding their lives, I have become convinced that there is one practice beneath all the others. We become practiced at where we place our identity.

The Weight Loss Plateau Was Never About Weight

Years ago, I worked with people whose goal was to lose weight. The beginning was exciting. The scale moved. Friends noticed. The compliments came quickly. Every week brought another reminder that something was changing. Then the plateau arrived. The scale slowed down. The excitement faded. The compliments became less frequent. Suddenly, people who had been committed began questioning everything. "Maybe this isn't working." "Maybe this is as far as I can go." "Maybe I should just enjoy myself."

At first, I believed the plateau was stealing their motivation. Now I see something entirely different.

The plateau wasn't taking anything away. It was revealing something. It revealed that many of them weren't simply practicing healthy habits. They had been practicing needing evidence before they believed in themselves.

We Don't Just Practice Behaviors

We practice beliefs. Every repeated thought strengthens a pathway. Every repeated emotional reaction becomes more familiar. Every repeated interpretation of life becomes the lens through which we see the world. If every accomplishment becomes proof that you're enough... Then every setback becomes proof that you're not. If every compliment becomes evidence you're valuable...

Then silence begins to feel like rejection. If every successful launch convinces you you're capable...

Then one slow month convinces you you're failing. We think we're practicing habits. Often, we're practicing dependence.

Where Does Your Identity Live?

This is the question I come back to again and again. Where does your identity live? Does it live in your bank account? Your relationship? The number on the scale? Your productivity? Your title?

Your followers? Other people's opinions? Or does it live somewhere deeper? Because wherever your identity lives is what controls your emotional life. If it lives in circumstances... Your confidence rises and falls with circumstances. If it lives in approval... You'll spend your life chasing applause. If it lives in outcomes... You'll only trust yourself after you've succeeded. That's exhausting. And it's fragile. Because circumstances change. People change. Outcomes fluctuate. If your identity lives there, you'll always feel unstable.

The Practice No One Talks About

Most people think transformation happens when life changes. I don't. I think transformation happens the moment you stop asking life to tell you who you are. Think about that for a moment. How often do we ask the world questions it was never meant to answer? Am I enough? Am I successful? Am I worthy? Am I becoming someone important? The world can't answer those questions. The scale can't.

Your income can't. A relationship can't. Social media certainly can't. Those things can reflect your choices. They cannot define your identity. That's your work.

Life Doesn't Create Your Identity. It Reveals It.

People often ask me why life gets so hard when they're trying to grow. I don't think it's because life is testing you. I think growth exposes whatever you've been practicing. If you've practiced trusting yourself... Difficulty strengthens you. If you've practiced depending on external validation... Difficulty feels like rejection. The same circumstance. A completely different identity. The obstacle didn't create the response. It revealed the practice.

Becoming Before the Evidence

One of my favorite questions to ask clients is this: Who do you want to be when this is hard? Not when everything is working. Not when people are cheering. Not when the business is growing.

Not when the relationship is effortless. Not when the scale is moving. Who do you choose to be when none of those things are happening? Because that's the person who creates the future.

Not through force. Not through pretending. Through repetition. Through practice. Through showing up again and again until that way of being feels more natural than the old one ever did. That's what identity really is. Not something you discover. Something you practice.

Showing Up Fully

This is why I created Showing Up Fully. It's not another program about positive thinking or trying harder. It's about recognizing the unconscious patterns you've been rehearsing for years and gently replacing them with practices that align with the life you actually want to create. Because you're not broken. You're practiced. And the beautiful thing about practice is that it isn't permanent. Every day you choose to think differently… Respond differently… Keep a promise to yourself… Stand when life invites you to shrink… You're rehearsing a new identity.

One day you'll realize something remarkable. You didn't suddenly become confident. You practiced confidence. You didn't magically become resilient. You practiced resilience. You didn't wake up as a different person. You became someone new because you practiced being that person long before the world reflected it. And perhaps that's the greatest freedom of all. You no longer need life to tell you who you are. You've already decided.

Ready to Practice a New Way of Being?

If you've spent years waiting for circumstances to give you permission to believe in yourself, maybe it's time to stop waiting. Showing Up Fully is designed to help you recognize the unconscious practices shaping your life and replace them with ones that create lasting transformation, from the inside out. Because the life you want doesn't begin when the world applauds you. It begins the moment you decide who you're becoming... and practice being that person every single day.
